Geneva-On-The-Lake
is a village on the shores of Lake Erie in the northeast corner of Ohio. The permanent population is approximately 1,500. That number increases in summer with vacationing tourists. Geneva-on-the-Lake dates to 1869 - just four years after the Civil War. It was America's first summer resort and it looks much the same way it did back in the 1950s. In the early 1900s, it was visited by what was called "the Midwest gentry," the likes of John D. Rockefeller, Henry Ford and Harvey Firestone. Today, the main street is lined with restaurants, old-style arcades and souvenir shops. Lots of special events are held in Geneva-on-the-Lake year-round. You can tour wineries, play miniature golf, shop, sit on the sidewalk and enjoy an old-fashioned foot-long hotdog, or take a leisurely stroll along the lakeside. Erieview Amusement Park is located on the strip in downtown Geneva-on-the-Lake and is full of nostalgia. The park is free (you only pay for rides) and offers nine adult rides and nine children's rides, including a kiddie train, ferris wheel, and Flying Scooters. Geneva State Park is one of the few "rent a camp" parks in the country. For a small fee, you can rent a large tent, complete with cots, cook stove, lanterns, mattresses, picnic table, fire ring and firewood. It's an inexpensive way for a family to enjoy an adventure at the lake. Other things to do here include swimming, charter fishing, boating, and hiking. Ashtabula County is rural in nature and home to 16 covered bridges, 15 award-winning wineries, 19 museums, two scenic rivers and numerous farm stands with fresh produce in spring, summer and fall.

Northeast Ohio, along the shores of Lake Erie, has a distinct four-season climate. Summers are warm and humid, although not as humid as other areas of the country, such as the deep south. Thunderstorms and tornadoes are a possibility in the summertime. Winters in Northeast Ohio are cold and snowy. Severe lake effect snowstorms are common along the shores of Lake Erie, which is a designated snowbelt area. This region of Ohio gets more snow than any other area in the state. Spring is often unpredictable and generally comes late to Northeast Ohio. Autumn is beautiful with mild days and cool evenings. Fall is also the sunniest time of the year. Earthquakes are a possibility, although few are even noticed by the average citizen. The most recent earthquake occurred on December 31, 2011 and had a magnitude of 4.0.
