Sugarcreek
is a village located in the heart of Ohio's Amish county in the east-central part of the state. The population is approximately 2,100 residents. Set among the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, Sugarcreek is known as "The Little Switzerland of Ohio." Some of the attractions in the town include the Alpine Hills Historical Museum, which has displays of the early days of the community with its Amish and Swiss heritage. There is a ten-minute film that shows the Amish way of life and their industries, such as cheese making. The John S. Yoder Home is an authentic Amish farm and home built in 1869 that's open to the public Friday and Saturday, May through October. Yoder's offer tours of their barn and two houses, where the history and customs of the Amish faith are explained. Sugarcreek is also home to two golf courses. The Amish County is popular for its' restaurants and shopping. Delicious, organically-grown foods are served in home-style restaurants, and the Amish are well-known for their beautifully crafted handmade furniture, quilts, cheese, pies and chocolates. Sugarcreek is a very scenic area, and it's charming to hear the clip-clop of horses hooves as you catch a glimpse of the Amish traveling the roads in their horse-drawn carriages. Please be aware, however, that the Amish are opposed to having their pictures taken.

Northeast Ohio's Amish County has a four-season climate, typical of most Midwestern states. Summers are warm and can be humid, although often the severe humidity lasts for only a few days, resulting in a cooling thunderstorm. Some days see 90 F/32C for at least a few days. Winters are cold and snowfall varies greatly year to year. Some years sees temperatures dip into the single digits for a few days. Fall is the sunniest and best season for weather in Ohio. Warm days and cool nights result in some of the most beautiful fall foliage anywhere, but especially in this region of rolling hills and woodlands. A jacket is recommended for fall evenings when the temperature may dip into the low 40s. Spring weather in Northeast Ohio is often unpredictable with cool days and showers.
