Marietta
is a very pretty town located along the Ohio River in southeast Ohio. It lies at the mouth of the Muskingum River where it meets the grand Ohio River. As of the 2010 census, the population was 14,085 residents. Marietta is a community with a rich history. In 1788, it became the first permanent American settlement in the Northwest Territory. The settlement was named Marietta in honor of Marie Antoinette, because as Queen of France, she had aided the Americas in their battle for independence from Great Britain. Marietta offers historical homes and parks, museums, trolley tours and seven miles of paved brick streets. Other attractions include Mound Cemetery, which contains the Great Mound, built by Ohio's Native American Mound Builders. The cemetery also has the largest number of Revolutionary War officers buried in one location. A Civil War Reenactment is held in September each year, with Union and Confederate "soldiers" battling across the scenic Muskingum River. The weekend of Labor Day in September, the annual Ohio River Sternwheel Festival brings thousands of visitors to Marietta. The festival includes sternwheel races, a large fireworks display, lots of food and live musical performances. The Riverfront Roar is held annually in July and features formula 2 and formula 3 powerboat races on the Ohio River.

Western West Virginia ,along the Ohio River, has a climate of four very distinct seasons. Warm summer temperatures tend to be in the 80s and cold winter temperatures tend to be in the 30s. The warmest month of the year is July with an average maximum temperature of 95F, while the coldest month of the year is January with an average minimum temperature of 22F. Temperature variations between night and day tend to be moderate during summer with a difference that can reach 21 F , and fairly limited during winter with an average difference of 18 F. The annual average precipitation in this region is 40.69 inches. Rainfall is fairly evenly distributed throughout the year. Snowfall can occur anytime from late November to March, with the most amounts falling during January and February.
