Loveland
is located in southwestern Ohio about 15 miles northeast of Cincinnati. The population is approximately 11,000. Loveland was once a bustling railroad town, but today is considered a "bedroom community" of Cincinnati, with few businesses and many residents who commute to the city for work.Loveland does offer a number of attractions and activities, however. The Loveland Bike Trail, which is part of the Little Miami Scenic Trail, runs through the town and canoeing is popular along the Little Miami River. Loveland is also home to 16 city parks, including a few small neighborhood children's playgrounds. Other attractions include the Loveland Castle, or Chateau Laroche, built in the 1920s by Boy Scout troop leader, Harry Andrews. Andrews "folly," as it's called, sits on the banks of the Little Miami River and is a museum today. Another historic structure, the Gothic-style Shield's Crossing, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Several small festivals are held in Loveland each year, including JulyFest and SymmesFest. As one might expect of a town with the romantic name of "Loveland," the town has incorporated the "love" theme throughout the city. Each Valentine's Day, up to 20,000 envelopes are stamped by hand with a Valentine-themed stamp that reads There is nothing in this world so sweet as Love. In addition, since 1992, non-residents of the city may reserve the Loveland City Hall for a one-day only Valentine's Day marriage ceremony.

Southwest Ohio's climate features hot, muggy summers and cold winters. It lies in a climatic transition zone at the northern edge of the humid subtropical climate and the southern edge of the humid continental climate. Summers see significant rainfall, with July being the warmest month. The comfort index for southwest Ohio, based on humidity during the summer, is 46 out of 100 (with a higher number being more comfortable.) Winters are cold and snowy, although this area of the state receives less snow than the northeast snowbelt region. Spring is mild with unpredictable weather. Autumn is the sunniest season with cool nights and pleasant daytime temperatures. Extreme weather is a possibility in the form of severe thunderstorms, floods, ice storms and blizzards.
